Day 32: Los Angeles & Santa Barbara

On Wednesday we did a brief Hollywood tour. We drove the "boulevard of broken dreams" and ended up to the stars and the Kodak theatre. It was quicky seen, with the realisation that Donald Duck has big flippers (feet) and Samuel L Jacksons shoe size must be at least 48, while Rita Hayworth's shoe size must've been 32. After the Stars we drove around Beverly Hills to admire how the rich and famous live. Really cool houses, especially the ones on the hills. LA must be quite a nice city when you are loaded with money, and quite a sad city when that is not the case.

We also took a brief long-distance look at the Hollywood sign. After these 3 cultural high points we decided it is time to move on from LA. We spent the Wed-Thu night enjoying Santa Barbara's beach life. The first hotel we went was waaaaaay over our budget. R wanted to ask whether they really think they can get the hotel full with those rates but managed to keep it in :) we walked to the next hotel called motel (synonym for cheap), got a really good room and some discount. The method of getting discount this time was to ask whether there is a special price since we are foreign travelers :-)

We spent the afternoon on the beach. While the beach season had started already, the water did not really look tempting with some black stuff washing to the shores (algae? black sand? anti-matter?). Instead we took a reading & lying on the beach afternoon. At one point R was getting too much of a "Kumbayah" vibe from the beach. Not exactly familiar with the term I found out it means that "soon someone's getting a guitar, people sit in a circle and sing Kumbayah and to make things worse probably they will also start a CAMP FIRE!" To our sadness/happiness this did not happen although the circumstances were in favor of it ;-)

The center of Santa Barbara offered a huge variety of restaurants and shops and we found a really nice place which served shared plates + special deal that all vines were half price. Niceness.
